4. Risk Reduction and Control Measures

Summary

In this module we have seen that:

  • Always consider whether manual handling can be avoided through mechanisation.
  • Improvements in the flow and storage of products and materials will help to reduce the risk of injury to employees.
  • It is the duty of the employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the PPE is worn as and when required.
  • Employees should receive suitable and sufficient training to reduce the risk from manual handling down to as low a level as is reasonably practicable.
